What would make today awesome?

Yesterday I shared that question with a client of mine. It’s something I ask myself when I feel untethered.

I used to live for and dread weekends in equal measure. I worked hard all week and wanted to, and needed to, recharge on the weekend.

Friday evening would arrive and if I hadn’t put a few stakes in the ground of what exactly I wanted to do, I would have no idea what to do at all. It usually resulted in guilt.

Now when I have that unfocused, untethered feeling, I ask myself, “What would make today awesome?”

It’s usually something pretty simple:

* If it’s nice out, for me, it’s taking a walk

* If there’s a project hanging over me, I’ll schedule a couple of 25 minute increments to work on it...movement forward can happen in bursts.

* If my daughter has been on the iPad for 15 hours (exaggeration?), I know that organizing a little family connection will make us feel awesome. A board game or cards or cooking or reading together.

“What’s the ONE thing YOU could do today, that would make you feel awesome?” Do that first.

So, what’s going to make today awesome for you?
